After Tupac and Patsy Cline are we about to start worshipping the dead on stage A few years ago a rather remarkable thing happened during American music festival Coachella.
As Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre romped through their headline slot, they were joined on stage for by a coach outlet locations 33026 man who had died 16 years previous. coach outlet las vegas Or at least so it seemed. Because in a rare case of the audience actually going slack jawed, gunned down rap legend Tupac Shakur appeared alongside Snoop and rapped his way through a song complete with synchronised dance moves. This was no resurrection however. This was modern technology giving us a taste of what many at the time assumed would be 'the next big thing' in live entertainment. As the YouTube footage will testify, this was thoroughly convincing stuff for the audience. It appeared more than just a projection onto a back drop, but a hologram which was unerringly life like. (Not, Rimmer on Red Dwarf lifelike, I might add, but pretty convincing from a distance, nonetheless). Tupac today, we all thought, surely Michael Jackson tomorrow? After all, the Jackson back catalogue has been mercilessly wrung out for every last penny, it made all the sense in the world that those in power in the entertainment industry would see an opportunity to sell tickets to a show which delivered the Jackson experience just, well, without the man himself. Impersonators around the world continue to make a steady livingso why not the Jackson estate? Or, more to the point, a major live entertainment company? It looked like a dead cert when, in 2014, a Jackson hologram performed a 'new song' during a US awards show. But then it all went quiet. And since that 2012 Coachella appearance, not only has Tupac stayed very much dead and buried, but so, it seems, has the technology been at rest too. Until, it seems, just recently. When all of a sudden it has returned to life. Or, more to the point, country star Patsy Cline has returned to life as a hologram. She may have died in a plane crash in 1963, but next year's she's back in her very first hologram tour. You can imagine those behind the coach warehouse online project(or) will think if tickets sell then Mr Jackson will be wheeled out soon. Or at least a life like image. But if that works, then where do we stop? Will we soon see Queen reunited with Freddie Mercury? Will they have to come up with a John Deacon one too if he doesn't want to take part? Will Kurt Cobain suddenly rip through Smells Like Teen Spirit or Ian Curtis appear from a morose reprise of Love Will Tear Us Apart? Because if this technology takes the seemingly inevitable path it is traversing, we may all soon find ourselves snapping up tickets to watch Elvis Presley again, of maybe a Buddy Holly comeback. It could all get rather weird. And for every ticket sold for a dead legend, then a live one may well think twice about touring for fear of being blown off stage by purple coach bags outlet a computer sprite.
Who could resist James Brown doing the splits once more as he scorched through one of his legendary live shows, when compared to the emerging new talent?
