and a photographer's story In life, you might say there there are defining moments that can shake up a person's world.

One of them is birth. The other, death. And in the case of Christine Hess, 52 year old mother of two boys, wife to Jim, and professional photographer from Niagara Falls, it just may have taken one, then almost the other to propel her on a new journey in life. The first happened when her second child was born. Christine and Jim had been married more than 25 years before they had children, and in October 2008, Jaxson was born. A brother for, Colton. A joyous moment. Their family, complete. And then she nearly died. Right there in the hospital, with a newborn baby, three year old son and husband who all desperately needed her to live. And from that, slowly, cautiously, over weeks that turned into is coach outlet online authentic months, came her new career as a photographer. How it all happened is coach outlet arundel mills phone number a story woven with joy and pain, rock bottom exhaustion and persistence, and two little boys who wouldn't let her give up. It begins with Jaxson. Christine gave birth to Jaxson a week early, by C section. He was a big boy, 10 pounds 4 ounces, just shy of his brother Colton, who was both big, at 11 pounds seven ounces, and breech. Problems began after Jaxson's birth when Christine's bowels shut down. There was input, but no output. Her conditioned worsened, to the point where her colon ruptured. Exploded inside her abdomen, creating a life threatening, septic infection. Doctors operated, and put her in an induced coma. When she was opened up a second time she lost half her large bowel and ended up with a colostomy, an operation that diverted her colon through an opening in her abdomen, and feces into an attached bag. And for the next two weeks, in a coma, she fought for life. At home, friends and family moved in, to help Jim care for his children. He refused to make funeral arrangements. And then one day, Christine woke up. It was anything but fairy tale. She would spend another month and a half in the hospital. At home, her hair would fall out. There was another operation to get rid of an abscess under her liver. She fought exhaustion. And depression. There are few photographs of Jaxson as a baby. Even fewer of Jaxson with his mother. Christine could barely hold him, much less do any mom things. There were nurse visits every other day to change her dressings. And when the couple finally managed to go out for an anniversary dinner, Christine was forced to go home the colostomy, although it would eventually be reversed, chose that occasion to leak. And yet, there was humour. When nine year old Colton was a year old, Jim was diagnosed with colon cancer. He, like Christine, had part of his colon removed. So, after Christine's experience, the inside joke became: both semi colons, says Jim. And somewhere in the midst of all this, Christine bought a camera. A nice digital SLR. She needed a release. She needed to lose herself in creativity, in order to find herself again. At first, she shot lots of flowers and the Falls from multiple angles, on the auto mode setting. It felt right. Real. Slowly, Christine started to feel more like herself again. She finished her Grade 12 diploma at night school. And this fall, she graduated from the certificate of photography program at Niagara College. She was given the option of having the certificate mailed or presented to her. She surprised anyone who knows her, including herself, when she chose presentation. be the only time in my life when I'll get up on stage and do this, she says. why not? the meantime, her photographs have appeared in everything from Niagara Parks publications to Canadian Geographic. She has the cover shot on the 2014 Niagara Parks visitor's guide, and a double page spread inside the Niagara Falls tourism visitors guide. look at light different now, she says. Clouds, pockets of light, give me goosebumps, she says. Her photograph of the Horseshoe Falls at sunrise, the creek down from Morningstar Mill in the fall, and a double rainbow she photographed by standing on the roof of her house, all appear in the Wicked Weather, best weather photos of 2013, edition of Canadian Geographic. Her photos appear on Niagara Parks post cards, and will be part of its 2016 calendar. Her images have been displayed by Nikon at its booth during the Exposures Photography show in Toronto, and this summer, one of her shots of the Falls made it onto boxes of Shreddies, in grocery stores across Canada. don't ever remember being so passionate about something in my life, she says. And in the unlikely event that she loses sight of life priorities, her children will bring her back to solid ground. Case in point: on her return from Algonquin shooting the fall colours, she walked through the door and was embraced by Colton who informed her: missed you so much, and then, you know what? Would she have otherwise returned to her office job at Jim's window coach outlet stores memphis and door installation business? All she can do is speculate. She writes: I think that's maybe why I'm so passionate about it, and it holds such a special place in my heart. It was like a release for me at times.

It helped me get through some rough spots that I had along the way. allows her to enter a necessary mind space. Indeed, even on the coldest day of winter, she can lose herself in photographs.
