A country star on the rise A small town boy from Fox Island River is making a name for himself in country music.

It's a long road to pave from Newfoundland to Nashville, Tenn., but Jason Benoit is making his way to the country music charts with ease. People often think when they're beginning in the music industry it happens overnight, Benoit said. "One day you don't hear of an artist and the next day, they're huge. You think that overnight success is a reality, when it's actually the opposite," he said. It's been six years since Benoit signed with his manager. "We've been actively making an attempt to get me out there," Benoit told The Advertiser. "It's only about now that it's starting to come around. It takes time and you need patience, but it's worth it in a lot of cases. Especially in this case with me, I'm really happy where I am right now and (with) how everything is going. " It may coach outlet usa online store be a slow process, but Benoit is well on his way to earning a name for himself in country music. He has already had one single, 'Gone Long Gone' reach the top ten on the Canada Country Music chart, he spent a month touring from Ontario to British Columbia with Canadian country artist Tim Hicks and now he is selling out venues on his own tour at home in Newfoundland. "About six years ago, I was posting original songs on Facebook and that's where (my manager) coach outlet atlanta dmv discovered me and he messaged me and he said he wanted to work with me. That's pretty much where it all started," said Benoit. From there, they began working on writing and picking coach outlet stores colorado out the right songs. "Much like (running) a business, you have to take your time and make sure it's done right," Benoit said. "We're at the point now I think that things are starting to blossom a bit, getting a lot more festivals and shows and going to Nashville and doing a lot of writing, working that angle. It's starting to grow, it's getting there." Benoit is currently working on his cross Newfoundland tour, which started on Feb. 24 in Stephenville with a sold out venue. This summer, he will be playing at a number of different festivals including Manitoulin Country Fest, Boots and Hearts and the Eastbound Hoedown in Avondale. "It was great, last night was the first show, it was sold out. It's really like my hometown show because it's the closest place to me right now (and) to have it sell out like that is such a cool experience," said Benoit. "To have my own show coach outlet stores gilroy ca and have it sell out like that is really a milestone in my personal career." Since he was 18, Benoit has been playing shows at the Arts and Culture Centre in Stephenville doing fundraisers and country shows. Before being discovered, Benoit was working a bank in Stephenville, but he always wanted to make music his career. "As I was working, I played gigs on the weekend at bars all the time," he said. While things are moving along well, he hasn't reached that moment where he feels like he's made it in country music. "I had a top 10, which is a huge accomplishment for an artist in Canada (and) that was probably the moment where I said 'It looks like things are looking up,'" he said "I wouldn't say that I've made it yet, but I'm on the way. It's an ever evolving journey." But things change from one day to the next in the music industry and it's not unusual to hear of someone having a top 10 and never heard of again. Success depends on an artist's music and follow up songs, Benoit said. "I write all of my own stuff, so I feel confident in my own writing and where I am as an artist," he said. Newfoundland is still home for Benoit and his family. He travels back and forth to Nashville, but that may change as he pursues fame. Right now, Benoit is working on an album, which will be released in the fall.

His Newfoundland tour will bring him to the Grand Falls Windsor Arts and Culture Centre on March 4 and tickets for that concert are still available. Benoit thanked Newfoundlanders "for all the support and hopefully they can stick by me on my journey through my music career.".
