We asked them why they volunteer for Let's Talk Science. Hilary Foulkes, ChairTudor, Pickering, Holt Co. Securities Canada "Science education provides meaningful careers but also creates critical, independent thinking important for the political and economic decisions facing Canadians. I also believe an understanding of science enhances our quality of life, allowing us to appreciate the wonders of our world and worlds beyond! Let's Talk Science gets that message out." Hilary Foulkes joined the Let's Talk Science in 2013and was elected as its Chair in December 2016. She is also Chair of Tudor Pickering Holt Co. Securities Canada and a Corporate Director for Enerplus Corporation, Parallel Energy Trust, Modern Resources. Ms. Foulkes is an oil and gas and investment banking executive with over 30 years' experience. Hilary graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Earth Science from the University of Waterloo. Rick Dobson, Past Chair"Being an engineer and from the Oil Industry I am well familiar with Canada's challenge to generate more STEM educated youth for the future workplace. Canada's productivity and world competitiveness depends on it." Rick Dobson joined the Let's Talk Science in 2008 and is currently Past Chair. Mr. Dobson is a retired senior executive of 37 years with Imperial Oil Ltd. and Exxon Corporation. He has an extensive background in business management, marketing, accounting, human resources, communications and risk management. An engineer by profession, his career took him to several international posts and various positions, including Government Relations Advisor, Executive Manager and Executive Region Director Americas South Fuels Marketing and of Esso InterAmerica leading operations. Rick holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from Queen's University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Randy Frank, Vice Chair Director, Research and Development 3M Canada "As the leader of a Canadian R organization, I see every day how central science, technology, engineering and math are to the advancement of our economy and society. The great work of Let's Talk Science fosters interest in STEM in our youth along with many of the soft skills needed to succeed in industry." Dr. Randy Frank currently serves as a Vice Chair for Let's Talk Science. Randy is also Director of Research and Development at 3M Canada. He currently leads 3M Canada's technical organization including research and development, product engineering, technical services, quality and regulatory affairs.
Dr. Frank has spent much of his career at 3M leading new product development programs in a wide variety of industries including oil and gas, telecommunications, electrical utilities, mining and automotive. His expertise is in fostering a corporate culture that encourages creativity and risk taking while still maintaining a focus on commercial success.
