Brighton's Black History Month Heralds A Sun The show Rum Bass will herald the start of a packed month of visual arts, theatre and music events across Brighton and Sussex as residents come together to celebrate the history of Asian, African and African Caribbean peoples.

Rum Bass offers audiences the chance to soak up the sounds, rhythms and tastes of the Caribbean in a sun drenched celebration of island independence, with guitarist, bassist and producer Dennis Bovell and his band performing a live set. From his early days with seminal UK reggae outfit Matumbi a band that would become Britain's premier reggae band at a time when the genre was spreading from Jamaica to a wider international audience to his work with the likes of I roy and Linton Kweisi Johnson, Bovell is bona fide British reggae royalty. Bovell's contributions to reggae are huge he was one of the original architects of lover's rock, a movement that put British reggae on the world map. The Independent Throughout the 1980s Bovell was in great demand for his production skills, stamping his own inimitable sound on albums from the likes of Bananarama, The Thompson Twins and The Stilts. He has also remixed albums for artists as diverse as Marvin Gaye, Wet Wet Wet and The Boomtown Rats. A story about two foster brothers building a global t shirt brand, it follows their journey from a market in Nigeria to a sweatshop in China where they discover the consequences of success. Ellams was born in Nigeria in 1984, and moved to the UK as a teenager. He merges visual art, poetry and theatre, telling stories with iconic imagery, humour and beauty. He writes about his upbringing, the experience of immigration, and of living in the UK today, bringing words to life with pace, rhythm, cadence and intonation.

The poet and performer behind The 14th Tale and Untitled performs Black T Shirt Collection following two sold out performances at Brighton Festival 2012.
