A fisherman did a double take after spotting these three deer enjoying a swim off the Northumberland coast. Kevin Henderson was on his boat, the Natalie Kristen, when he saw three objects in the water off Amble, in Northumberland, just before 7am on Wednesday morning this week. Mr Henderson, a fisherman of 30 years, of Amble, said: "I was leaving Amble harbour and was just outside the piers when I saw them. "I first thought they were just swimmers but I took another look and realised it was three deer. "I was quite startled. I stopped the boat, grabbed my phone and took a picture. "I couldn't believe it, I've never seen anything like this before. "I don't know where these deer have come from. They were just swimming in front of our boat." Alan Stewart, for Amble Lifeboat, said there had been sightings of deer in the water before, however he had not heard of any in the Amble harbour area. He said: "I have heard of this happening on the Coquet river, towards Warkworth. "There is a lot of land there and you can quite often see deer jump into the water and swim across to the opposite bank.
"However it is unusual for this to happen that far down off Amble. "I have not heard of any deer sightings in that area." A spokesman for The British Deer Society saw the photos and identified the animals in the water as roe deer coach pocketbooks.
