2015 BMW 320d M Sport saloon Get daily updates directly to your inbox+ SubscribeThank you for subscribing! For four decades the BMW 3 Series has been at the top of the small premium executive segment.
It accounts for a quarter of all the vehicles that BMW coach outlet asheville nc sell, so a facelift was probably always going to be a careful business. But with cars like the Jaguar XE raising the bar, the facelift clearly needs to raise BMW's game.It starts with the engine, which has had a mild rework for the modular 2.0 litre turbodiesel, which employs Efficient Dynamics. Both power and torque are up slightly, by 6bhp and 15lb ft, while the CO2 emissions have fallen to 111g/km. This is in part due to an improved fuel consumption which rises to 67.3mpg.The result is more than the sum of the parts. This thing flies so long as you keep 1500rpm on the rev counter. With the slick shifting eight speed auto box you have a great performance package. But not a particularly refined one. There's a surprising if low level coach outlet membership diesel clatter, pretty much the same as in Jaguar's Ingenium diesel in the XE. We'd have hoped for a touch more refinement. The exterior has further gentle changes including larger front intakes and the headlights are different. You can also get an LED option. There is a new LED set up at the rear. The already coach outlet aurora stiffer suspension of the 3 Series has been stiffened further in this M Sport and lowered by 10mm. We decided to fit the adaptive dampers option as well as the 19in wheels. The result is unsurprisingly firm, even in Comfort mode, which the coach store online gives excellent control in corners. Naturally some bumps get through but it's not a jarring ride. If you do want something that errs more to the comfortable side then the SE trim would be the answer. The steering has also been revised and that's a game of two halves. The Servotronic system seems to lack weight when the wheel is straight ahead and then loads up too much weight as you turn into corners. It would be best to avoid the variable option and stay with the standard set up as it feels more linear. We also had the optional M Sport brakes and, once again, the option wasn't an unqualified success. The brakes worked well but lacked progressive feel. Having chosen the larger wheels and tyres, we found they made a fair bit of noise, certainly more so than the Jaguar XE which has a similar set up. Standard seems to work well with this car.Inside the cabin, apart from the tyre noise, there's the usual wind noise from the mirrors but the new gloss black surfaces and chrome highlights do add to the ambience of a premium motor car.
The iDrive works exceedingly well and it's a superior cabin to be in.The 3 Series M Sport is a better car than its predecessors, but then it needs to be when the opposition like the Jaguar XE and forthcoming new Audi A4 are setting the bar so high. It's a great all round premium executive small car, but it doesn't have the space at the top that it did when it launched 40 years ago.
